5 mins – Phonics Practice (sound keyring/jolly phonics app – say and trace each sound on the card)
5 mins – Blending Words (use sounds from keyring to make different words, sound it out to read the word)
5 mins – Sight Words (recap Sight Words from Column 3)
*I have included the List again at the bottom of this document
** I have the next set of words available if anyone feels their child is ready to move on, but the first 20 words are more than enough if you can help your child to become as familiar as possible with these it would be a great help in Senior Infants 😊
5 mins – Counting/Number Work -Counting Song 12345-Once I caught a Fish Alive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ir_l7qTiZ4
-practice counting forwards/backwards to 10, use different numbers as the starting point for practising counting. For example, start counting from 6 or 8. Ask your child to count forwards and backwards. Ask what number comes before, or what number comes after, a given number.
15 mins – Cúla 4 (Watch a cartoon on TG4 as Gaeilge/in Irish)
15 mins – Storytime (reading/listening to a story. YouTube has many stories available if you are looking for something new. Here are an example:
There’s and alligator under my bed- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNE8p0E4NVU
15 mins – Exercise (GoNoodle videos available on YouTube or GoNoodle.com)
(Body Coach Joe Wicks doing live PE session every morning at 9am)
10 mins – Writing News (Talk about news e.g. day of the week/weather/season/any topic of interest. Parent write down news e.g. ‘Today is Monday. It is cloudy. It is May. We had a nice weekend. etc’ Ask children to copy the news down in their own handwriting. Encourage proper letter formation (use letter tracing sheet to help).
20 mins – Playing shop -Playing shop helps ground your child’s maths learning in the real world while also developing their social skills. One way to play shop is to create a mini-shop at home. Collect food and grocery items and label them with prices written on sticky notes, or prices cut out of shopping catalogues.
Thursday 4th June
10 mins -– Play a word hunt. Write random words on bits of paper and place them around a room. Say one of the words and ask your child to find the right word.
5 mins – Mindfulness – Growing Flower Buzzing Bee Mindful Moment
For this Mindful Moment we are going to pretend to be a growing flower. Sit comfortably with a straight back. Your straight back is the stem of the flower. Take a deep breath. Your lungs breathing deeply are like the leaves on the stem. They are taking in oxygen to help your flower grow. Lift your face to the sky or ceiling. Close your eyes and imagine the sun on your face. Your face is the flower feeling the sun shining down and keeping you warm. Keep breathing and feel your flower grow and stretch up towards the sun. What a beautiful flower! Sometimes, when you try to take a quiet Mindful Moment lots of thoughts and ideas buzz around your head like a buzzing bee. That’s ok! Notice the buzzing bee, what are the things that are distracting you. When you are ready gently blow that bee away, and think about being a growing flower again!
15mins-Money- Talk about how we pay for items using coins, notes and cards. Make paper money or use play money to buy and sell goods from the mini-shop. Notice the features of different coins, including their shapes and the animals and people shown. Discuss the differences. Create coin rubbings with pencils and paper.
Friday 5th June
5 mins- Writing- write a piece of writing about a recent experience, such as a wedding or birthday party, or a trip. For example, a trip to the park could result in recounting the day’s activities, what did I do there? Who did I meet? What did I see?“
15mins – In the summer I see……
Draw and label all of the things you would see in summer. Count how many thing you thought of.
10 mins – Counting/Number Work (counting games on topmarks.co.uk if possible - e.g. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/counting )
I chose Liquorice Allsorts because the shapes of some of the sweets make them fantastic for building towers.
I give the children a pile of sweets and ask them to build towers.
While they build chat to them about which sweets are easiest to build with and which help make the most stable structure.
What sweets would you use to build a tower?
Take a picture and send it to your teacher 😊
